How Chinese Rubber Machines Upgrade Technology Brands

At present, most rubber manufacturing enterprises in China have developed their own research and development capabilities. As a result, they have become the world's largest producer and manufacturer of rubber products, with a strong export record. However, when it comes to technology, brand recognition, and global competitiveness, there is still a significant gap compared to leading international rubber machinery companies. Currently, patent technologies in the Chinese rubber machinery industry are mainly concentrated in a few key enterprises, particularly in vulcanizers and molding machines. The quantity and quality of these technologies still lag behind those of foreign counterparts. Additionally, there is a weak ability to commercialize scientific and technological achievements, meaning many patents remain unused or unimplemented. In conventional tire manufacturing equipment, certain critical machines—like steel cord rolling machines—are still far behind foreign standards and not widely accepted by domestic tire manufacturers. Large-capacity mixers are largely imported, while the all-steel four-drum machine is only produced by one company in Beijing (Beijing 625), and the one-step semi-steel machine is still absent from the domestic market. The most commonly used vulcanizing machine in China is mechanical, whereas most foreign countries use hydraulic models. Tire testing equipment, such as dynamic balance testers, is mostly imported. There is no domestic manufacturer conducting research on automated tire production technology. Furthermore, the industry lacks strong brand awareness, and its internationalization efforts need to be accelerated. Despite these challenges, China’s rubber machinery industry has a solid foundation. It has a complete range of production capabilities for radial tires, and the rapid growth of the domestic tire industry provides ample opportunities for development. China’s rubber machinery offers a world-leading price-to-performance ratio, and its technological level is now on par with global standards. The industry also features a diverse ownership structure, contributing to a coexisting industrial model. To transform from a major player to a global leader, the industry must focus on building strong technology brands. Three key areas should be addressed: strengthening innovation systems, enhancing patent awareness, and building a global brand. First, companies must establish independent technological innovation systems, invest more in R&D, and develop new products with intellectual property rights. Qualified firms should create their own technology centers and aim for national-level recognition. The industry should also build platforms where entrepreneurs can collaborate with university professors and researchers to speed up the industrialization of innovations. Companies should also consider environmental factors like energy efficiency and pollution reduction when developing new products. Second, raising patent awareness and formulating clear patent strategies is essential. Brand building is still in its early stages, with only a few companies focusing on branding. Currently, only one type of vulcanizing machine has been recognized as a "China Famous Brand." To improve this, domestic manufacturers should prioritize product quality, after-sales service, and brand promotion. Over the next few years, nearly ten companies are expected to receive the "China Famous Brand" title, and several products may be exempt from state inspections. Third, the industry must build a strong overall brand and work toward becoming a globally recognized name. Companies should align with international practices in training, product development, and marketing, aiming to shift from domestic-focused factories to truly global enterprises. Personnel training should emphasize language, management, and technical skills. Product development should follow modern methods and meet international standards. Firms should avoid low-level price competition and instead focus on collaboration and mutual learning. In terms of quality certification, the industry should start preparing for CE and UL certifications to overcome trade barriers. Companies with the capability should obtain import and export licenses to reduce trade dependencies. When sourcing parts, they should prefer well-known global brands. If possible, Chinese rubber machinery companies could jointly establish a global service network for Chinese rubber products, further strengthening their international presence.
