The new engine for the Prospect Heights Fire Department is being designed with a focus on performance, efficiency, and modern fire-fighting capabilities. Below are the key specifications and design features:
- Spartan Metro Star chassis
- Cummins L9 450HP engine paired with an Allison transmission
- Front Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) of 21,500 lbs and rear GAWR of 32,500 lbs
- Waterous 1500-GPM single-stage pump equipped with a pressure governor
- 750-gallon water tank for initial suppression efforts
- Integrated around-the-pump foam system with a 60-gallon foam tank
- No light tower or generator installed; all lighting consists of Fire Tec LED scene lights
- All stainless steel body construction—lighter and more cost-effective than aluminum, as noted by Alexis
- Clean cab design with no SCBA seats; all SCBA and PPE stored in a compartment directly behind the cab
- Only EMS gear is stored inside the cab for quick access during medical emergencies
- Front bumper-mounted master stream, preconnect lines, and extrication tools for immediate response
- Main hose bed designed to carry 2,000 feet of 5-inch hose
- Pull-out hose bed for 800 feet of 3-inch hose for specialized operations
The chassis is expected to arrive in February, with the final delivery scheduled for late spring or early summer. A more precise date will be confirmed once the chassis has been received.
