Another piece from Jim Regan's archive. This fire took place on a freezing cold night and tragically led to the death of Firefighter Kelvin Anderson from Engine 107. His body was found several hours after the fire had reached its peak. I've uploaded some photos I took at the scene.

From fsi.illinois.edu:
On December 22, 1989, Firefighter Kelvin Anderson of Engine 107 with the Chicago Fire Department died in the line of duty when the roof of the Rose of Sharon Church on W. Warren Boulevard collapsed on him during a fire. According to his colleagues, he was crawling through the church searching for victims when the roof gave way around 7 p.m. Rescue teams worked for over sixteen hours before recovering his body, which had been buried under debris in the basement, around 11 a.m. the following day. An autopsy revealed that he had succumbed to asphyxiation and severe burns. A full department honor was given at his funeral, and a memorial plaque was dedicated to him at Engine 107’s station in 2001. This incident remains a somber reminder of the risks firefighters face every day.
