Another piece from Jim Regan’s archive. This tragic fire happened on a freezing cold night, and it claimed the life of Firefighter Kelvin Anderson from Engine 107. His body was found several hours after the fire had reached its peak. I took some photos at the scene and uploaded them for reference.

From fsi.illinois.edu:
On December 22, 1989, Firefighter Kelvin Anderson of Engine 107, Chicago Fire Department, lost his life while responding to a fire at the Rose of Sharon Church on West Warren Boulevard. The incident occurred during a severe winter night, and the roof of the church collapsed on him as he was searching for victims inside. His colleagues worked tirelessly for over 16 hours before locating his body in the basement the following morning. An autopsy revealed that he died from asphyxiation and serious burns. He was honored with full departmental honors at his funeral, and a memorial plaque was dedicated to him at Engine 107’s station in 2001. This event remains a somber reminder of the risks firefighters face every day.
