The passing of a friend … Glenn Bennett, Jr.

Many of our readers had the pleasure of knowing Glenn Bennett, Jr., who grew up in the area. Others may have recognized his name from his long career driving and delivering trucks for Seagrave. Whether as a neighbor, a colleague, or a friend, Glenn touched many lives with his warm personality and dedication.

In April 2016, we shared a story about an accident that Glenn was involved in. He spent time recovering in a rehabilitation center in Wisconsin, where he lived. Tragically, Glenn passed away on Sunday, November 4th, at the age of 67. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him and those whose lives he impacted.

Here's a message from John Tobin, a close friend of Glenn, which was originally posted on Facebook:

John Tobin and Glenn Bennett, Jr

For every picture there is usually a story, and this one is no exception. One summer, I got a call from my old friend and Seagrave delivery driver. He said, "John, can you come and help me? I'm stuck in the maintenance pull-off on the Dan Ryan in downtown Chicago, and I’m broke down." I replied, "Seagraves never break down," and he laughed. The rig had developed an air leak, and he knew who to call.

So I jumped in the Suburban, picked up the parts we needed, and was on my way. About 90 minutes later, I arrived, and bingo—we got lucky. I had the right part. Glenn, with his big smile and bubbly personality, was back on the road, heading to New Jersey. Glenn was always the biggest ambassador for Seagrave, and his contributions should never be forgotten.

Please take a moment to think of Glenn, or drop him a line wishing him well as he continues to face life’s challenges. My thoughts are with him today.
