The star of this event is ZiGGY, the robotic charging unit developed by EV Safe Charge, a Los Angeles-based company renowned for its expertise in flexible EV charging solutions. ZiGGY is designed to autonomously locate your parked vehicle in a DFW Airport parking lot, charge it, and then return to its charging dock without any human intervention.
According to Caradoc Ehrenhalt, the founder and CEO of EV Safe Charge, ZiGGY was selected by DFW Airport for its unique ability to reach every car in a parking lot. This flexibility addresses one of the biggest challenges faced by EV drivers today—the frustration of "ICE-ing," where a non-EV vehicle occupies a charging spot.
In a recent video showcasing ZiGGY's capabilities, users can see how the robot operates. A driver books ZiGGY from a remote location, and the robot identifies an available parking space, parks itself, and reserves the spot for the arriving vehicle. Once the car arrives, ZiGGY moves aside, connects to the vehicle's charging port, and begins the charging process. When finished, ZiGGY returns to its charging station to recharge itself.
