Arlington Heights firefighters responded to a fire at 1400 Thomas Street, where flames were reported in the attached garage of a single-story home. Upon arrival, crews discovered small explosions likely caused by fireworks stored inside the garage. The incident was escalated to a Code 4, prompting additional fire units from Arlington Heights, as well as neighboring departments from Buffalo Grove and Wheeling.
Fire spread into the house, but crews managed to bring it under control within 30 minutes. Despite this, the structure required extensive overhaul, and firefighting units remained on scene for several hours. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but early reports suggest that the presence of fireworks played a significant role. Local residents have been advised to be cautious with pyrotechnics, especially during the summer months.
Photos from the scene show the damage caused by the fire, with smoke still visible in some areas. The images, taken by Jeff Klauke, capture the intensity of the situation and the efforts of first responders.
This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with storing flammable materials indoors, particularly during times when fireworks are commonly used. Authorities are urging homeowners to follow safety guidelines and keep such items in safe, designated areas away from living spaces.
