Volvo Truck's new engines and gearboxes reduce fuel consumption and nitrogen oxide emissions while increasing power. The engine complies with the new Euro V emission standards (to be effective in EU countries in October 2009). At the same time, Volvo introduced a new version of the I-shift automatic transmission, which has many smart features including fuel economy.
