As the birthplace of China's soda manufacturing industry, the Tianjin Soda Plant has long been committed to sustainable development and environmental protection. Holding two "China Top Brand Products" titles, it has consistently focused on creating a green ammonia base as its core principle, integrating eco-friendly practices into every aspect of its operations. Over the years, the plant has made significant progress in managing the "three wastes" (waste gas, waste water, and solid waste), improving the environment, conserving resources, and implementing cleaner production techniques.
During the "10th Five-Year Plan" period, the plant invested 90 million yuan in advanced pollution control projects, achieving remarkable results in waste reduction and resource recovery. It completed dust control at the top of the lime kiln, installing seven towers and four dust treatment systems, with all recovered dust being reused. This project became a model for the soda industry and received national patents. The #4 high-pressure boiler desulfurization system was also built, passing environmental acceptance and becoming the largest of its kind in China. For the first time, by-products from the desulfurization process were transformed into agricultural ammonium sulfate fertilizer that met national standards.
The Tianjin Soda Plant has always prioritized technological innovation in its environmental initiatives. It pioneered the use of new bag filters in the industry, achieving dry treatment of ammonium chloride dust, improving efficiency, and reducing exhaust dust concentration. This project won the second prize for scientific and technological progress from the Soda Industry Association. The company also replaced old dust collectors with PPDC-type air box pulse bag filters, upgrading soot removal systems and significantly improving performance. By using electrostatic precipitators for dry gas recovery from four kilns, it changed traditional methods of treating soda ash furnace gas. Additionally, an advanced air flotation oil recovery system was introduced, meeting wastewater discharge standards and increasing waste oil recovery.
In terms of resource conservation, the plant reuses industrial by-products to minimize environmental impact. Each year, the limestone calcining process generates about 80,000 tons of waste sand, which is now fully blended back into the boiler system, reducing the need for new limestone. A seawater circulation plant with a capacity of 2500 m³/h helps lower salt consumption in soda ash production while saving fresh water and reducing pollution. Fly ash from boilers is used to produce building blocks, with 400,000 cubic meters produced annually, promoting comprehensive utilization. Carbon dioxide emissions are converted into liquid edible carbon dioxide, supplying major brands like Coca-Cola and Pepsi, and waste mother liquor is used to make sodium sulfite, offering both environmental and economic benefits.
To enhance the surrounding environment, the plant collaborated with institutions such as the National Environmental Protection Agency and Tianjin University to develop soil engineering technology for soda slag. It not only treated an old slag mountain but also built the Ziyun Park, covering 330,000 square meters, featuring beautiful landscapes and greenery. This park became the world's only environmentally friendly park constructed from industrial waste. Through these efforts, the Tianjin Soda Plant has set a strong example of sustainable development and environmental responsibility in the soda industry.
