HJ3's CarbonSealâ„¢ Industrial Composite Systems Receive PEMEX Approval for Steel Pipe Repair and Reinforcement
HJ3’s innovative CarbonSeal™ Industrial Composite Systems have just received a major endorsement from PEMEX, Mexico’s leading energy company. This approval marks a significant milestone, allowing the use of HJ3’s advanced carbon fiber technology for repairing and reinforcing both low-risk and high-risk corroded or damaged steel pipelines across the entire oil and gas production chain. From onshore to offshore, exploration to refining, and transmission to distribution, these systems are now officially recognized for their reliability and performance.
"This is a huge step forward for HJ3," said Jim Butler, President and Co-founder of the company. "With over 10,000 successful applications worldwide in civil and industrial infrastructure, this qualification opens up new opportunities in the Latin American petrochemical and gas sector. Our carbon fiber solutions offer superior strength per ply, providing cost-effective alternatives to traditional repair methods or full pipeline replacements."
The qualification was achieved through rigorous testing by the Instituto Mexicano Del Petroleo (IMP), following strict standards such as ASME PCC-2 Article 4.1 Appendix III and ISO/TS-24817. HJ3’s CarbonSeal™ system successfully passed a burst test, proving its ability to withstand internal pressures above 5,000 psi even when applied to pipes with up to 80–90% wall loss. This demonstrates the system’s robustness and suitability for critical applications.
2012 has been a transformative year for HJ3 Composite Technologies, marking a decade of innovation and excellence. The company was recently awarded the Arizona Innovation Challenge Grant for the second consecutive year, beating out more than 400 competitors. It also received the “Technology Company of the Year†award from the Minority and Small Business Alliance of Southern Arizona. With over 25 years of large-scale testing and 20,000 hours of durability assessments, HJ3 continues to support global industry leaders like ExxonMobil, Shell Oil, British Petroleum, and now PEMEX, offering materials that combine exceptional strength, engineering support, and on-site quality control.
Petróleos Mexicanos, known as PEMEX, is the largest company in Mexico and Latin America. As a key player in the country’s economy, it contributes significantly to national development. PEMEX is unique in that it manages every stage of the petroleum industry, from exploration and production to refining, transportation, and distribution of fuels and products.
Variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid or oil control valve controls the oil flow according to the engine speed and load. VVT solenoid is a vital part of the variable valve timing system.
The Oil Control Valve (OCV) is a a critical part used in every engine that is fitted with variable valve technology (VVT). A single control valve will regulate the supply of oil to a designated VVT hub, to advance or retard the timing by altering the camshaft angle position. Controlled by the ECU, the OCV receives electrical signals, instructing it to adjust the oil flow as required, in accordance to current driving conditions.
