The Huntley Fire Protection District responded to a second-alarm apartment fire on Sunday that tragically claimed the life of a local resident. The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of the morning, left a community in shock and mourning.
According to the *Daily Herald*, Allen “Al†R. Jacobs, a 47-year-old man who had lived with a mobility challenge since a teenage car accident, passed away in the blaze. His longtime friend Randy Albrecht, from Lake in the Hills, reflected on the loss, recalling how Jacobs had always feared a sudden death where he wouldn't be able to escape. Standing outside the burned-out Woodcreek Apartments at 11702 Woodcreek Drive, Albrecht was deeply affected by the tragedy.
The fire broke out around 6:12 a.m. in Jacobs’ first-floor unit and quickly spread to the second and third floors. The Huntley Fire Protection District was joined by 15 neighboring fire departments in responding to the emergency. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin for treatment before being released.
Meanwhile, the *Chicago Tribune* reported that McHenry County officials confirmed the identity of the victim as Allen R. Jacobs. The fire occurred in a six-unit wood-frame building, displacing 10 residents. Battalion Chief Tim Flannigan stated that the fire originated in one of the units where Jacobs was found deceased.
The incident has raised concerns about fire safety in multi-family housing, especially in older buildings. Local officials are now working with residents to ensure their safety and provide support during this difficult time. The full story, including video and photos, can be viewed [here](#).
