Japan's Honda will develop a new engine

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's Honda Motor Co. has announced that it will develop a diesel engine for passenger cars that will be used to configure the new Accord vehicles that the company plans to launch on the European market in 2003.

In the past, diesel engines used by Honda were provided by MG Rover Automotive. Honda is currently negotiating with Isuzu Motor Co. to jointly develop a new 2000-milliliter diesel engine. Isuzu will be responsible for the production of this new model. In addition, Honda also plans to install newly-developed diesel engines on Civics vehicles that will soon be sold in the European market, and to introduce new diesel-powered cars in the Japanese market.

The European market has a strong demand for diesel engines because this type of engine has less carbon dioxide emissions than gasoline engines, and automobile manufacturers in various countries are committed to the development of diesel engines. This is also the main reason for Honda to develop new types of diesel engines.
