In the current market, the two vessels are small-scale sea otters, and according to sources, they have obtained charter contracts.
An official of Shanhaiguan refused to comment on the confidentiality clause. However, sources familiar with the shipyard confirmed the order, saying that the two parties had signed a letter of intent to purchase and revealed that the mini-boat was designed by the China Ship Design and Research Center.
Elcano's vessels range from LPG carriers, LNG carriers, finished wheels and chemical wheels. In the bulk carrier sector, the company cleared a number of old bulk carriers and has dismantled three Panamax vessels since 2012. In June of this year, the 61,000-ton Castillo de Arevalo (built in 1987) was sold to China for dismantling.
In addition, the company holds multiple bulk carrier charter contracts in Europe and the United States. Currently, its most expensive bulk carrier is the 175,000-ton Castillo de Valverde (made in 2005) and the Castillo de Catoire (built in 2006). The two ships were purchased from Hebei Ocean Shipping Company (Hosco) in 2006 for a total price of 130 million US dollars.
It was also learned that the shipowner also purchased the 78,000-ton bulk carrier Panamax Challenger (built in 2013), although it was not known that Elcano was behind the buyer. The ship was purchased from Sanoyas Zosen of Japan in March with a resale vessel and the purchase price was $29 million. At that time, the buyer’s identity was not announced. The ship is now operating under the name of the Forte De Sao Jose.
