BYD pure electric car through Uruguay certification is expected to be promoted

Recently, the Uruguay Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, the Uruguayan Ministry of Transportation, the Montevideo Government of Uruguay, and the National Electricity Corporation (UTE) jointly announced the results of tests conducted by BYD's electric K9 and electric car e6 in Uruguay. The test results show that all parties are satisfied with the performance of BYD electric buses and electric vehicles, and expressed strong intentions of promotion.

Roberto Kreimerman, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mines of Uruguay; Enrique Pintado, Minister of Transport; Ana Olivera, Mayor of Montevideo; Ramón Mendez, Director of National Energy; Gonzalo Casaravilla, President of UTE; NestorCampal, Montevideo Transport Director; and Public Transport Operator, Many guests from international financial institutions and other countries and local agencies attended the conference.

In the past four months, under the cooperation of UTE and BYD in Uruguay’s local partner CTSAutoS.A., BYD's electric bus and electric vehicle test and evaluation project has been proceeding smoothly.

UTE President Casaravilla shared with guests the results of the operation of BYD's electric buses on four different urban transit routes in Montevideo. The tests were carried out at different time periods and at different speeds. The operating mileage was 1,279 kilometers. The data shows that the average mileage of a single bus exceeds 252 kilometers and consumes 1.26 degrees per kilometer. He said that the electrification is the future of transportation. The outstanding performance of BYD's pure electric buses is fully applicable to the metropolitan transportation system.

Roberto Kreimerman, Uruguayan Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining emphasized that BYD's electric buses can effectively reduce environmental pollution and eliminate noise. Given that the transportation system consumes more than 30% of Uruguay's fossil energy, the adoption of such electric buses can significantly increase the independence of fossil energy in Uruguay. He also stated that the urban electric motorization strategy complies with the national energy policy and is conducive to the transformation of renewable energy development. The mayor of Montevideo, Olivera, also stated that urban bus electrification is the ideal solution to mitigate the greenhouse effect and reduce air pollution and noise pollution.

Enrique Pintado, Uruguayan Minister of Transport, said that the introduction of new technologies in the public transport sector has become a priority. They can provide better quality and sustainable services to the public. According to Mendéz, Uruguay’s national energy director, Uruguay’s current fossil fuels are heavily dependent on foreign resources and 100% of fossil fuels are imported. Under such circumstances, the promotion of electric vehicles will help increase national energy independence and safety, because 90% of Uruguay's electricity can come from renewable energy sources.

The conference site not only introduced the outstanding performance of BYD electric buses and electric vehicles and significant environmental benefits, but also Gonzalo Marquez, a member of the Transportation Commission, introduced the economic aspects of electric vehicles. According to calculations, the comprehensive consideration of first-time car costs, energy consumption costs, maintenance costs and other relevant factors, the lifetime cost of a pure electric bus is 60% of a conventional diesel bus, and the lifetime cost of a pure electric taxi is only half that of a fuel car.
