ABB receives an order for cruise ship power and propulsion systems

Zurich, Switzerland, March 29, 2012: ABB, the world's leading power and automation technology group, has received orders to supply a complete power and propulsion system for a cruise ship built by STI Europe's Turku shipyard at TUI Cruises, a German cruise operator.

It is reported that TUI Cruises is a cruise ship operator jointly established by German travel company TUI AG and Royal Caribbean International. In order to adapt to the growing market development of the German-speaking region, it has begun to expand the capacity of passenger ships. STX Europe and ABB have a number of collaborative projects in ship projects, and ABB's ability to deliver energy efficiency systems is the main reason for its acquisition.

The complete power and propulsion system delivered by ABB includes medium voltage generators, main switchboards, propulsion transformers, power drives, propulsion motors, propeller motors and power distribution units, as well as engineering, project management and commissioning services. ABB will help new ships optimize energy efficiency and fuel consumption on board while providing reliable power to the equipment system on board. The complete equipment system is expected to begin delivery in the spring of 2013 and commissioning in early 2014.
