Here's what Steve Redick shared:
Last night, I had the chance to witness an unusual incident. There's a small piece of Chicago territory located along Foster Avenue, west of River Road, right next to O'Hare Airport. This area is closer to Rosemont and Schiller Park, yet it falls under the jurisdiction of the Chicago Fire Department (CFD). It's not really a good response area for either the airport companies or Engine 11—more like a no-man's land. When smoke was reported in the area, multiple departments responded, including Rosemont, Schiller Park, Des Plaines, and Park Ridge. The CFD was also notified.Upon arrival, the units found a large fire inside an industrial building that had been used for a tour or party bus. Park Ridge, which was on auto-aid, used a deck gun to tackle the main fire. Chicago units then arrived and worked alongside the suburban departments. One unique element of this call was the use of MVU 924, a mobile ventilation unit stationed at O'Hare Field. Most of us who are into firefighting haven't had the chance to see this unit in action before.I also took a few photos of the street signs at each end of the block. They used suburban-style hydrants, but I overheard someone mention that the sprinkler connections on the building were Chicago threads. All in all, it was one of those rare, once-in-a-lifetime incidents.Steve
