Urea Alcoholy Carbonate Breakthrough

The news came from the Shanxi Coal Chemical Institute last week that the carbon dioxide developed by the Institute was synthesized by urea alcoholysis and the dimethyl carbonate demonstration unit was successfully driven by a single shot and achieved smooth operation.
As a new type of green chemical product, dimethyl carbonate (DMC) is an excellent additive for gasoline and diesel fuel, but it has limited the large-scale application due to the high cost of industrial synthesis. As early as 2000, Shanxi Coal Chemical Institute proposed a new method for direct synthesis of dimethyl carbonate from urea and methanol, and has applied for four national invention patents and three international invention patents. The technology used in this technology is urea and methanol, which can greatly reduce the production cost of dimethyl carbonate. At the same time, this synthetic route is basically free from “three wastes” and is a green synthetic route. The successful development of this technology will help promote the diversification of China's urea industry products and increase the economics of the synthetic ammonia and synthetic urea industries.
The development of this technology has been supported by the National Science and Technology Support Program "Critical Production and Recycling Economy Key Technologies and Demonstration Study" and other projects.
