Stockton firefighters are currently evaluating the extent of the damage after their unoccupied firehouse was engulfed in flames on Thursday morning. According to Stockton Police Chief LaDon Trost, the fire caused severe destruction to the building and its contents.
The fire was first reported around 11 a.m. and was finally brought under control by 1:30 p.m. Some equipment, including a large tanker truck, was stored in a separate building across the street, which remained unaffected.
“Unfortunately, all the air packs were inside the burning building, so the firefighters couldn’t enter,†said Trost. “They managed to contain the fire until other departments arrived to assist.â€
Authorities suspect that the fire originated from a piece of equipment inside a pull-behind trailer, according to Trost.

Dressed in casual clothes like blue jeans and hoodies, Stockton firefighters found themselves facing a blaze that hit close to home.
A witness saw smoke rising from the village’s fire station around 11 a.m. Within minutes, volunteer firefighters from neighboring areas arrived to help save the Stockton Fire Department’s headquarters.
No injuries were reported, according to Fire Chief Randy Baysinger. However, the fire is expected to cause hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to firefighting equipment.
Baysinger believes the fire likely started due to an electrical issue in one of the department’s trailers. The trailer was completely destroyed, along with one of the department’s frontline engines. Several other vehicles sustained major damage.
Baysinger said the department will still be able to provide essential fire protection services to the community. Local fire officials have offered to lend their equipment to support the department during the recovery period.
