After two months of trial operation, Sinopec Maoming's 1 million-ton/year ethylene renovation and expansion project was officially completed and put into operation on November 18. This project is one of the “Top Ten Projects in Guangdong Province†for Sinopec to promote the construction of the South Base. After the project is put into production, it will form the largest integrated refinery and chemical industry in China with the 10 million-ton-class refinery that Maoming Petrochemical annually processes 13.5 million tons of crude oil. The base became the first ethylene plant in China to reach a million-ton level during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan†period.
At the completion and production ceremony, Chen Tonghai, general manager of China Petrochemical Corporation, said that the investment of 8.1 billion yuan in Maoming's 1 million-ton/year ethylene renovation and expansion project was the first million-ton ethylene project completed and put into operation in China during the 11th Five-Year Plan period. After the project is put into production, Maoming Petrochemical's ethylene production capacity accounts for 1/6 of Sinopec Corp., accounting for 1/10 of the country's total. It produces an annual output of more than 3 million tons of various types of ethylene chemical products. This is of great significance to improve the domestic ethylene production layout, optimize the structure of ethylene products, and enhance the coverage of China Petrochemical's coverage of the southern market.
The Maoming Ethylene Expansion Project was officially started on December 15, 2004 and completed on September 16, 2006. The localization rate of newly-built cracking devices reached 87.8%, among which the cracking gas compressors, cold boxes and other core equipment have all achieved localization. In addition, the renovation and expansion project has also completed the technological development of "640,000 tons/year ethylene complete set of technology development" and "300,000 tons/year polypropylene complete technology development", and the independent technical content and scientific and technological level have been significantly improved. At the same time, the project has implemented clean production and all production facilities have been discharged.
