According to foreign media reports, Eastman Chemical, a major manufacturer of PET, is exploring the establishment of a partnership with global oil companies to take the strongest cost advantage in the PET market.
It is reported that Eastman has planned to build a world-class polyester plant together with its partners. The project will use Eastman's IntegRex technology, which will more closely combine the raw materials produced by PET with the polymerization stage, which will result in significant cost savings. This technology eliminates the need for a dedicated solid state cell to make bottle-grade resins, which can reduce molding costs by 30%. In addition, the footprint of the device using this technology is only half that of the conventional PET preparation process.
Eastman's new 350,000 tonne/year PET plant using IntegRex technology in Columbia, South Carolina, USA, has begun trial production and will be operating at full capacity in the first quarter of 2007. Since then, Eastman's IntegRex technology has shifted from a semi-industrialized medium-sized unit to an industrial unit.
