Caterpillar announces the launch of the first electric crawler bulldozer

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE: CAT) introduced the industry’s first innovative AC electric crawler bulldozer, further consolidating Caterpillar’s ​​position as the world’s leading earthmoving equipment manufacturer. The innovative electric system was created specifically for track-type tractors, allowing the D7E to achieve an unrivalled balance of power, efficiency, control and maneuverability. The machine will debut on March 11-15, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"This confirms Caterpillar's global technological leadership and its unremitting efforts to achieve sustainable innovation that benefits customers' economics and the environment."
From a performance point of view, this new product fulfills Caterpillar's commitment to the industry by launching machines that are productive, fuel-efficient, and reduce the customer's operating costs. Caterpillar plans to sell D7E in selected markets in 2009.
“From an environmental sustainability perspective, the D7E consumes far less fuel per hour and significantly reduces CO2 emissions,” said Stu Levenick, president of the Caterpillar Group. “Compared to any other crawler bulldozer at the same level, this innovative design allows the machine to use less resources during its working life. All major components have been specially designed for later refurbishment or reuse.”
With a weight range of 60,000 lbs (27 000 kg), the D7E is powered by a powerful Cat® technology that meets Tier 3 emissions standards in the United States. Tier 4 emissions standards have also been considered in the design process. The new D7E also has other innovative features, including a unique mid-column cab, beltless engine, and SystemOneTM chassis.
