Asahi Kasei plans to build S-SBR facility in Singapore

Asahi Kasei Chemical Co., Ltd. (AKC) said recently that it will build a new S-SBR plant on Jurong Island in Singapore. The initial designed capacity of the plant is 50,000 tons/year, and it is planned to be completed and put into operation in June 2013. The second phase of capacity expansion will be completed in the first half of 2015, and an additional 50,000 tons/year of S-SBR capacity will be added. AKC currently has 105,000 tons/year and 35,000 tons/year of S-SBR capacity in Kawasaki and Oita in Japan. Japan Elastomers, a joint venture between AKC and Showa Denko, operates the S-SBR facility in Oita, and AKC owns a 75% stake in it. Showa Denko has the remaining equity.
