September 23, 2017 – At approximately 0645 hours, the 5th Battalion and several companies were dispatched to a reported fire at an ordinary three-story apartment building. While en route, the Englewood Fire Alarm Office (FAO) issued a Still & Box alarm for reports of people trapped inside. Engine Company 84 and Truck Company 51 arrived first and reported heavy fire in the rear of the structure. The 5th Battalion soon followed and confirmed that the fire had extended through the roof. Due to the dangerous conditions, Company 2-2-1 requested a 2-11 alarm and ordered all units to evacuate the building. Five 2.5-inch lines were deployed, while Tower Ladder 37 and Squad Company 5’s Snorkel operated elevated master streams. Engine Companies 84, 45, and 50 used their deck guns to help control the flames. Unfortunately, search operations could not be completed due to concerns over the building's structural integrity. Firefighters also faced challenging conditions, including high humidity and temperatures in the mid-80s. Still Alarm companies involved: E84, E47, T51, T30, BN5, SQ5, 2-7-5, RIT, BN6, T15, A55, A36, 4-5-8.
