Scientists at the University of Central Florida (UCF) have developed a supercapacitor battery prototype that lasts 20 times longer than traditional lithium-ion batteries. Its charging time is a few seconds.
In the future, if you replace the battery with these super capacitors, you can charge the phone for a few seconds and you don't need to recharge it for more than a week.
Even more wonderful is that the battery life will not be reduced. Lithium-ion batteries, a slow process that leads to a degraded start of a smaller amount of overall capacity per charge cycle. The prototype does not experience the same level of degradation and still works as new.
This is early, but research is promising. If successful, the study of supercapacitors could result in weeks of battery life for mobile devices, an increase in the range for electric vehicles, and better storage capacity for alternative electricity.
