Stockton Fire Station damaged by fire

Excerpts from the JournalStandard.com:

Stockton firefighters are currently evaluating the damage following a fire that broke out at their unoccupied firehouse on Thursday morning. The blaze caused significant destruction to the building and its contents, according to Stockton Police Chief LaDon Trost.

The fire was first reported around 11 a.m. and was finally brought under control by 1:30 p.m. Some equipment, including a large tanker truck, was stored in a nearby building across the street.

"Unfortunately, all of their air packs were located in the building where the fire started, so they couldn't enter," Trost explained. "They managed to work on the fire until other departments arrived to assist."

Authorities suspect the fire originated from a piece of equipment inside a pull-behind trailer, as stated by Trost.

Excerpts from THonline.com:

Dressed in casual clothes like blue jeans and sweatshirts, Stockton firefighters found themselves dealing with a fire that hit close to home.

A witness reported seeing smoke coming from the village’s fire station around 11 a.m. Within minutes, volunteer firefighters from neighboring areas arrived to help save the headquarters of the Stockton Fire Department.

No injuries were reported, according to Fire Chief Randy Baysinger. However, the fire is believed to have caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to firefighting equipment.

Baysinger said the fire likely started due to an electrical issue in one of the department’s trailers. The trailer was completely destroyed, along with one of the department’s front-line engines. Several other vehicles sustained serious damage.

Baysinger confirmed that the department will still be able to serve the community. Neighboring fire departments have offered to lend their equipment to support operations during the recovery period.

This incident has raised concerns about fire safety protocols and the vulnerability of emergency facilities. While no lives were lost, the damage highlights the importance of maintaining and securing equipment, especially in areas where such structures are not always occupied. Authorities are now investigating the cause in more detail and considering long-term solutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
